How to register on the CSD

The Central Supplier Database (CSD) is National Treasury's list of businesses that can supply government. Government buyers check it before they pay you, so you need a CSD supplier number to bid on most tenders.

Fix a problem

The issues people hit most, and what to do.

My tax status shows as not compliant or not verified

CSD checks your tax status with SARS automatically. Usually you have no active Good Standing PIN, it has lapsed, or SARS shows outstanding returns or debt. Fix the issue on SARS eFiling, request a new Good Standing PIN, then enter it on your CSD profile. See tax compliance PIN.

Bank verification failed

The account holder name must match your registered business name exactly. Get a fresh bank confirmation letter (under 3 months old) in that exact name, re-enter the details and redo the OTP step.

Director or company details do not match

CSD compares your details with CIPC and Home Affairs records. Make your CSD entries match your CIPC documents and IDs exactly. If CIPC itself is wrong, update CIPC first, then CSD.

My submission is stuck or I heard nothing

Check your spam folder, then log in to see your profile status. Incomplete sections and session time-outs are common causes, so save often. If nothing has moved after about 7 working days, contact CSD support through the portal.

A tender was rejected because my CSD details differ

Bid documents are checked against your CSD profile on the day. Update your profile (especially tax, bank and director details) before you bid, and make your bid forms match it.

What it costs

RouteWhat you pay
Do it yourself on the CSD portalNothing. There is no registration fee to register yourself.
Pay an agent to do itAgents charge a service fee on top. You still get the same CSD number.

Getting your tax affairs in order first (missing returns, debt) can cost more than the registration itself.

How long it takes

The form takes about 30 to 45 minutes once you have everything ready. Verification then takes a few working days: published estimates range from 3 to 10 working days, and SARS checks are often the slow part. Plan for up to two weeks before a tender deadline.

When it expires

  • Your registration does not expire on a fixed date, but you must keep your details current and confirm them at least once a year
  • Your tax status is rechecked with SARS, so a lapsed PIN or new tax debt can flag your profile at any time
  • Update the profile whenever your bank, directors, address or tax details change
